ABOUT
The Fishing Vessel Ocean Observing Network (FVON) is an international, interdisciplinary group dedicated to the advancement of ocean observing in partnership with the fishing industry, globally.
Fishing vessels offer a tremendous opportunity to collect oceanographic data and illuminate our coastal seas. There is a vast diversity geographically and culturally of different fleets, fishing methods, and practices. To manage heterogeneous data and advance fishing-vessel-based ocean observation on a global scale, FVON establishes best practices, facilitates observation uptake, and maximizes the value of ocean data.
